Comparison Issue #3: Public Financing of Elections

I hate the whole concept of "public financing" of political campaigns.

Is there anything more namby-pamby than for the public to shell out hard-earned shekels for political candidates in order to "level the playing field", meanwhile so-called shadowy, anonymous, 3rd-party 529's are free to spend countless millions on "advocacy ads" on behalf of candidates?

Unfortunately, both McCain and Obama have come out strong in favor of public financing for their respective general election campaigns.....well, McCain has......do I now detect a scent of wobbliness on Obama's part???

Sure, it was easy to agree in principle to do something when you were way back in the Democratic pack, way behind Hillary, but now that you are raising $30M plus a month, I guess that gives you the right to scoot away from previous commitments.

Politics are usual.

At least McCain is consistent. Can't say he's not.

Advantage McCain.
