Climate Change and Ignorant Republicans

Jenny/Walker..... love seeing you all go at it regarding the latest religion- the Book of Gore. Way to go Walker!!! Before I add my two bits, I have to take issue with something a lib said about 40k words back when she was lamenting "how difficult it has been for democrats these last 8 years" ( actually 7---he ain't gone yet). In those comments a certain Houstoniana ( I am taking Italian so everything has to end with a vowel), listed among her several peeves, " willful ignorance of issues surrounding climate change". Now, I know that I am part of the great unwashed, the heartland doofs who live in fly over country, and my edjufication ain't much, but I am not totally ignorant and it sure ain't willful. Does that mean I work hard at being stupid? This sounds suspiciously like a comment from an elitist Manhattanite or Hollywood personage ( and most of those have maybe a H.S. diploma). Also someone named Hillary said of one of our great generals something about the "willful suspension of disbelief"..... I quess elitist democrats and lawyers talk like that so we won't understand them. Note : Jenny... I do love you and feel a bit sorry for your dilemma.... well actually not too sorry, and not bad enough to want to see a democrat in the WH.

Let me offer an opinion that is on the other side of the issue.... and yes, you libs, there are two sides to this issue, and both side have some facts....it is not all one sided contrary to the New York Times, Atlantic and the Houston Chronically Wrong. First of all, most R's or those folks on the other side of this do not issue a flat out denial of global warming, as we are wrongfully accused. I personally think the evidence is clear that there is some sort of global warming going on. Where we differ is the libs have taken this on as solid science, drawn a set of absolute conclusions, mapped out a road map of big government/wealth transfer solutions constistant with their overall social agenda and have tried to smother in criticism anyone who questions their fanatically held views. They love the " we have more scientists on our side than you do arguement"......Mark can probably instantly whip up a list of 300 scientists to support his big bud Gore...... word to the wise.... scientists are not only fallable, they are regularly dispproving some previously held scientifically held opion as they advance science. Today John proves that Bills theory developed 50 years ago is total B.S., just like Bill proved his predecessors theory of 100 years ago was even more wrong! These days we throw govt and industry grants into the mix and we get even more questionable science!

There are several open questions which scientists disagree upon, which can't not be scientifically proven ( even with the super computers we now have......gigo!) and which do not reveal clear solutions. The key question of how to solve the problem is even less based on actual science than it is a political agenda.

Are temps up? Yep.. temps are up a degree or maybe two.....how much not sure...lots of debate based on models used, methods of data collection, where the data was collected etc. Just last month a scientist who did not ascribe totally to the Book of Gore said a lot of the data was suspect because it had been collected mostly in cities in the past 50 years, which skew the data based on heat retention - and fewer collection points are in the country side which can be a bit cooler.

How long will it last and how bad will it get.... and will it cycle back to cold? Based on history this sure isn't the first warming cycle the earth is endured.....well hell I personally remember the age of dinosaurs here in Colorado when it was like Florida.... before we had our last Ice Age which made Greenland look like Cozumel. Talk about my wardrobe problems! Local weathmen here, who are not to be believed anymore than Gore, tell us our draught of the last several years may have ended two years ago and we are getting cold snow like back in the early 80's ( when the libs were last predicting the next ice age was upon us).

What is the cause? Man? Sun spots? Cycles in ocean currents......some or all of the above???? To what degree is each or any of these ( or god forbid some unknown factors that we mortals have not figured out yet) the culprit? Notwithstanding what Gore says, and we know all about his scientic credentials, there are many more questions than answers, both to the cause and the solution. I have no problem with taking sensible precautions to reduce carbon emissions based on the chance that polution is a part of the problem. But I say the science is not solid enough to take the extreme steps Gorists promote. When Gore gives up his carbon burning Gulfstream and flies comrercial, I will consider backing off my 6 cyl 20 MPG crossover and getting a 30 MPG 4 cyl rice burner. Message to libs....hypocrisy is not an edearing trait and it is so easy to be outed!

The left concludes based on their world view and ideological template that 1- since business and capitalism is evil and oil/carbon industries are the most evil then they must have caused it....lets find evidence to prove they did it! 2- we have to have a victim in this issue ---jee- we can claim all of mankind on this one, better than just one or two socially protected groups, 3- all problems have to have a big govt solution so we will turn it over to the U.N. and allied liberal governments to solve.

There are more open questions than there are answers so I will not place any confidence in a mediocre politicians explanation of these complex events and even less in his solutions. I say get the politics out of the science and let them keep studying it.

If the democrats really were truely rationale and reasonable about this subject they would agree that our first national priority should be to become energy independent as part of reducing this great problem they feel we have....this would require that we push for alternative sources for energy including nuke powerplants, which they have fought tooth and nail for 40 years, clean up with technology the way we burn carbon fuels..... and at the same time drill for more gas and oil while we get technology working to minimize this problem. They are so beholding to the environmental extremists that they will never go for the new drilling..... anywhere. (Yes M and J.... John McCain is an idiot for voting against drilling in AK). I live in a state where there is a lot of gas drilling going on and the libs are fighting it every step of the way. To a lib there is no such thing as a good place to drill, at least not in or near the 50 states. Teddy Kennedy and his ilk want 50,000 windmills in WY and CO but not one off the Massachussets coast---even over the horizon.

So Obama reach across the isle, take a balanced view and come up with a great compromise that makes us energy independent and prevents the global warming disaster you tout..... I won't be holding my breath!

It's so frustrating: there is no more meaningful scientific disagreement. There is in the sense that there will always be a handful of industry stooges or pseudo-scientists who want attention from the those with a vested interest in not doing anything about global warming, but the idea that scientists are still at odds about this is a fiction that pundits on the right cling to, with total disregard for the facts.

It's very reminiscent of the smoking debates in the 50s and 60s, when the consensus was clear - smoking will kill you, but the smoking public didn't want to believe it, and the cigarette industry couldn't afford to believe it. They were always able to dig up some doctor somewhere who would defend the cigarette industry and fly in the face of modern science.
