He's Back!

Yep, like the changing of the seasons, everyone's favorite overweening narcissist is back!!!

I, of course, am talking about Ralph Nader, the Green Party presidential candidate and anti-corporate zealot who arguably gave Bush the presidency in 2000.

Ol' Man Nader has pledged to run again in November '08 as an independent.

The Democrats are furious this morning, as they should be.

Nader can easily siphon off a point or two from the Democrats and in a tight race that can make all the difference.

Obama doesn't need this......

I don't think he'll get 1 or 2 points. Many still hold him responsible for 2 terms of Bush, something only he fails to understand. They'll really be pissed at him now for monkeying the works of what is setting up to be a democratic land slide. He might get slice of the fringe lefties, but it won't be significant.

A landslide? McCain and Obama are neck and neck right now in national polls, a bad sign for any Dem. And keep in mind that this is the high water mark for Obama. When his record starts to become highlighted and the Rezko trail starts happening his numbers will soften....

Remember that Dukasis was 12 pointd ahead of Bush Sr. at this time in '88. Also, all the necessary red states are strong McCain states, even Ohio and Florida. It's going to be close.

I agree with both Mark and Walker! I can't imagine any Democrat in their right mind (no pun intended) voting for Nader now. His presence is insignificant.

But, with Walker, I think that Obama's liberal record is a problem for seasoned voters and I think just as much a lightening rod for the Republican side as anti-Hillary feeling. Some Republicans in my family are truly wistful for the wonderfully MODERATE Clinton years. And since they vote in Ohio you can trust that I am pitching for my gal!

its going to be an interesting election, no doubt. part of me wants obama to win just to see how quickly the facade of "yes, we can!" rubs off when real problems and difficult, even agonizing, decisions need to be made.....obama supporters, especially those new to politics, are in for a rude let down.....

Walker and Alison have both commented (not, I suspect, without a little schadenfreude) on the letdown and disappointment that Obama's supporters will feel when they find out he's just human and can't change everything.

This is no doubt true, but not an argument against his candidacy. I had a similar experience with the first president I supported, Bill Clinton. But it did not diminish my interest in public life as a whole, and I suspect that a good number of Obamamaniacs will stick around as voters and involved citizens long after he is gone.

Some will go on to the next big thing, whatever it is. But some won't. And that's a good thing, right?

The level of hype is the issue. I can't recall there being the same level of "inspiration" going on with Bill, good communicator though he was. Obama supporters include people who, when asked, well, don't actually agree with him on policy but are going to vote for him anyway. I can't go there with a politician. And maybe because I have had more than your average exposure to rousing Black Preachers I am immune to the mania.

Oooh, there is a good think piece inside your "black preacher" comment. I am going to be thinking about that one for awhile.

With love from inside the hype,
