In your latest email you took exception to my comments about the "cult of personality" and said you were supporting Obama for reasons of "character". Lets talk about some recent history. In 1992 Clinton was loved by the press, fawned over by democrats for his charisma, his oratory skills, his charm.....women considered him handsome.etc etc. Does any of this sound familiar? He had serious character issues that many folks in AR knew about but the national press sure did not investigate the allegations in any depth....basically he got a free ride because they loved him and his politics. Now most of the nations knows he is a sleezeball and even lib democrats who previoulsy loved him have a hard time reconcilling their conflicted view of him now vs their views then. The ones who love Obama are especially getting an eye opening and are most confilcted.( would you agree Jenny?)
I am not suggesting that Obama has character issues at all and certainly not on the level of either of the Clintons. I am saying that the press has not really dug into his background and his supporters really don't have tangible evidence of great or even mediocre character because it has not been investigated ( just like his ideas have not) by the press. Most love him for his charm and chiarisma and "hopeful" attitude. You read and hear these "rock star" words ....not a discussion of his character. In future years we will learn as we did with Clinton whether he is a person of great character of just a garden variety politician who has charmed the pants off us.
The Boston Globe ran article on his taking and using PAC and lobbyist money in a questionable manner ( just like he has accused Hillary of doing). The article got no legs and is doubtful that one in ten thousand of his supporters has any idea how he raised money, from whom or how he used it.
I have little trust in any politicians character, even when they are as slick as Elmer Gantry....as Bill was, and Obama is. I am a cynic based on 45 + years of watching them. Lets just stipulate that both McCain and Obama are men of acceptable character given what we now know of them. Then with that level playing field lets talk about ideas and concrete issues.....not hi falutin' talk and grandiose oratory ( your guys wins on speaking ability without question). Your are gonna have to show me " where is the meat". I can't tell you how many pundits have said after one of his great speaches..... what did he really say about what he is going to do.
When he and McCain go head to head he will have to anwer more definitevly ....the press may even make him..unlike Bill in 92.

Hear hear!
Did you hear what Chris Matthews, aka Tweety Bird, said about Obama's speech last night?

I forgot to say in my post at top:
I don't see any comparable warning signs re: Obama like there were w/Bill. Remember when Clinton went on 60 minutes w/Hill during primary season and admitted "causing pain in (his) marriage?" People knew. I think I would notice something like this today. Back then, I was only 21 and a little--a lot?-- clueless...
But I totally grant you that a lot of people are realizing the truth about the Clintons for the first time. Especially, as you said, Obama fans who are feeling their uncool campaign tactics most actutely.
